Kernvoll

At Kernvoll, it’s about more than just food.

Starting out as an organic tailoring company in Berlin in 2018, Kernvoll has become a hub for organic catering, vegan vacations, nutrition and health education, events, and workshops.

Pretty impressive, huh?

VEGCRAVER spoke with Kernvoll’s Christian Schletze-Wischmann who shared the company’s story, and why quality, sustainability and transparency are at the heart of everything they do.

What Inspired you to launch Kernvoll?

We have been vegan since 2016 and have done so for health and animal ethical reasons. We lived vegetarian for a few weeks, but that is not an alternative.

Overall, our switch from meat to 100% vegan only took 3-4 months.

We went vegan and wanted to strengthen the vegan movement in a meaningful way. Since there was no vegan classic and sustainable fashion from local production, we founded our vegan made-to-measure shop in Berlin.

Based on our experience in communication and complex projects, we also wanted to integrate vegan cuisine because we found that there was still no high-quality vegan organic catering at this time.

What's been your biggest challenge running a fully vegan business?

We never had problems or greater struggles to build up Kernvoll. It's hard work, but we didn't expect anything else. Otherwise we could have continued with our old professions.

Even the Corona crisis has given us great new opportunities despite all the losses. If you always find reasons to complain, you should definitely not start a company!

Where do you get your menu inspiration from?

We combine classic dishes from our childhood and all of our international influences to create high standards of vegan organic cuisine. Our aim is to produce the highest quality dishes for an affordable price and never at the expense of others.

That is why working conditions are extremely important to us, because for us renouncing animal suffering only goes hand in hand with renouncing the exploitation of people.

What are your thoughts on the current vegan landscape in Berlin?

We see ourselves as part of an international vegan movement that is getting bigger and more influential every day.

We do our part and work every day to ensure that many people can have delicious vegan experiences.

Future plans for Kernvoll?

We are expanding to Mecklenburg-Pomerania and setting up our vegan organic catering there as well as establishing our new vegan resort for holidays, education and events.

And to make things even better, due to the wide green space available in the resort, Kernvoll decided to save four pigs from the slaughterhouse and give them a life in freedom. Arya and Laghertha, and two piglets, Rocky and Apollo Dirk.

Power to the vegan movement!
