Vellgoods

23/02/2022Roxy VélezRoxy Vélez

Vellgoods, opened its doors to Berlin in July 2021 to disrupt the vegan ice cream industry. Rumor says some people secretly call it, a vegan cookie and chocolate dips heaven corner. They certainly are making high-end delicious baked goods that keep us coming back for more!

During the warm months, Vellgoods gets the city tasting a wide variety of ice cream flavors and enjoying its super creamy texture. And during the winter they are focusing more on cookies, brownies, and always testing to make new goodies 🍪.

VEGCRAVER spoke with Ruben Vellguth who shared Vellgood's origin story. They pride themselves on having a transparent and sustainable process, therefore they have set up on their instore shop a glass kitchen, so anybody can have a look. Their location is also great for hosting mini-events, just mention this on your request 😉 these guys are sweet as their cookies!

What inspired you to launch Vellgoods?

VellGoods gave me the opportunity to make the creamiest ice cream I can think of, flavor first is our mantra.

We love products with a deep flavor, body, and great texture, which we were missing from the vegan Ice Cream industry so far.

That´s why I started VellGoods, a flavor first vegan Company.

How long have you been vegan and what inspired you to make the transition?

For the benefit of my health, I changed my diet at the beginning of 2020.

Where do you get your menu inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from David Chang, a Korean-American entrepreneur/chef, a semi-professional culinary website, and David Chang, Frankie & jo´s, a plant-based Ice Cream company in the US.

What's been your biggest challenge running a fully vegan business?

Since we produce everything mostly from raw organic nuts, seeds we can achieve great quality in the end-product, which has higher production costs than "normal" ice cream with cow's milk.

What are your thoughts on the current vegan landscape in Berlin & Germany in general?

Honestly, Berlin is great. There is a great variety and people are putting a lot of effort into flavor and texture. In Germany, the landscape is picking up, especially in supermarkets. So, I think we are at a great time to eat plant-based foods.

Any big plans for the future of Vellgoods?

We would love to cater to more offices and place a freezer in every office in Berlin as well as open another tiny shop for scooping.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pizza.
